Welcome to our composting site. This site is not just to teach you about composting; it’s to get you inspired and enthused about it. Because there is quite literally nothing better you can do for your garden than composting. Composting is nature’s way of recycling – or renewal. Nothing really dies, nothing is wasted. The goodness goes back into the soil and nourishes it – over and over again.
On our site you’ll find out how to work with nature, how to help the process and how to speed it up. You will also learn how to avoid wasting anything, and above all, how to enjoy your garden. Because that’s what it’s all about.
Here are some of the things you will find on the site:
Compost BinsIf you’ve never tried to making compost, you’ll be surprised at how easy it really is and something you can have fun with. Because the best compost bins don’t have to be elaborate. In fact, the simpler they are, the better, so that you can get on with other things. The really important part about a compost bin is that it should be efficient at making compost. We’ll show you the different kins of bins.
Compost Tumbler
If you want to be really efficient at composting, you need a tumbler as well as a bin. This is because the organic stuff in the pile needs air and moisture in order to decompose, and that means the pile has to be turned over regularly, so that the air can get to all of it. Of course, you can do this manually with a fork, but it’s hard work. Having a tumbler makes it so much easier and more efficient. We will tell you about all the different types of compost tumbler, and how to decide which the best kind is for you.Bokashi Composting
Never heard of Bokashi composting? It originally came from Japan, and it’s a method of recycling food waste by sealing it in a bucket without air, with a bran mixture containing micro organisms. When the mixture is completely fermented you can put it on the garden. It breaks down really quickly and provides ultra rich nourishment for the soil. We will show you exactly how to do this and how best to use it.Worm Composting
Even worms have their uses. You can also call it wormery or vermiculture. If you add food waste to a container (an old drawer will do) containing worms and bedding, the worms will turn the bedding AND the food waste into compost. You need the right sort of worms, the right sort of food waste, and the right sort of bedding. You can find out exactly how to do this for great results. So just click on what you would like to know about first. We are sure you and your garden will benefit from our site.
